Housing

Pittsburgh's skyline as viewed from Mount Washington

According to one Pittsburgh housing organization, a three-bedroom, single-family house in the city costs 30 percent less than the national average.

Like other cities of its size, Pittsburgh has a mix of housing options. It has a strong inventory of older single-family houses, plenty of apartments and a great deal of new developments. Pittsburgh also has a goodly amount of public housing.

Like many older industrial cities, especially in the Northeast, Pittsburgh is seeing the creation of loft living spaces in some of its former commercial buildings. Much of the new development is one the fringes of the city.
